What are feminine energy microhabits?
To start off, let’s answer what is feminine energy?
Feminine energy is a spiritual concept that refers to energy found in women and men, attributed to traits such as intuition, beauty, softness, emotions, creativity, mystery, stillness, and nurturing.
Think of Mother Earth, women in their feminine energy, Men who tap into their emotional side, and the moon.
Micro habits, on the other hand, refer to small actions that are intentionally woven into our daily routines to achieve a set goal, i.e, fitness, peace of mind, a promotion, or happiness.
So let’s combine both to become; small, soft, powerful, and intentional habits that honour our feminine energy while aiding us towards achieving something.
And by achieving something, I don’t necessarily mean that we’re goal-focused, waiting for this revolutionary thing to happen, but instead, we’re present.
Presence is what separates masculine energy habits from feminine energy microhabits.
The power of microhabits in daily life.
The world went crazy over James Clear’s book Atomic Habits, which emphasizes that to build successful systems, we must shift our focus from grand actions to micro “atomic” daily habits.
This is what the world needed to hear to make a lasting change.
But why do microhabits work better than spontaneous leaps?
Meet Lora, a 23-year-old who works from home. She’s gained more than a little weight lately, and even though she’s never been one to exercise. She sets a goal that in a year she will go from 176 lbs (80kgs) to 132 lbs(60kgs).
Lora gets pumped up, buys her cute workout outfits, gets a gym membership, and goes in for the first day ready to lift weights.
The first day is really hard, and on the second day, she gives up.
She sulks for a few months and continues to hate her body until one day she comes across a very wise oracle who advises her to try simple ten-minute home workouts before journaling which she enjoys in the morning and short walks for the sake of mobility and stress relief, after dinner, after all, she spends all day cooped up in front of her laptop.
“Do I have anything to lose, other than this weight?” She wonders.
After a year of gradually adding tolerance through fun 15-30 minute home workouts and 10-30 minute walks, and being diet-conscious, she achieves her goal.
She’s astonished by how gradually it has happened.
That is the power of atomic habits.
As someone new to working out, Lora needed to build an identity-based system that didn’t overwhelm her but was neatly stacked into her established routine.
Back to the point why microhabits are for the win!
- They’re Simple, short-duration tasks that don’t overwhelm our nervous system.
- Easily integrated into our daily routines, i.e, Lora did her daily walks after her late dinner.
- Add up over time bettering us.
- It becomes second nature after multiple repetitions, almost effortless.
19 Feminine energy microhabits that will transform you.
These feminine micro habits will allow you to live softly, intuitively, and slowly, all while smashing your goals.
Over here, we’re not hustle-crazed; we want to live a memorable existence that doesn’t feel rushed, competitive, and especially draining.
Enough pep talk:
1. Use planners and to-do lists.
If I were to only give you one habit to increase your feminine energy this would be it.
Writing a to-do list is an act of supporting your feminine energy with some masculine structure.
Instead of waking up tensed and anxious with “what am I going to do today,” you will check your weekly to-do list, readjust accordingly, and go with the flow.
Here’s how I plan my weekly to-do list. I don’t use a physical planner (not a fan of handwriting). I have a folder on Google Docs labelled “My to-do list.”
On Sunday evening, I ask myself, “What do I want to do for the coming week based on my menstrual phase energy levels?”
Then I write all the things I plan on doing as predicted by my energy levels, for example, in my follicular phase (after my periods) is my most energetic phase, so naturally I can do more.
Here’s a screenshot of “my messy but effective to-do list” as a blogger on here, and a full-time stay-at-home mum to a toddler.
So buy that planner or use a digital app and each Sunday, set aside at least 3-5 minutes to write it down, and the week ahead will be a little more breezy.
2. Slow mornings.
By slow mornings it simply means that you’re not rushing up and down trying to get the kids ready on time or trying to beat traffic to get to work.
Girl, we’re trying to allow you to rest in softness, not the adrenaline of panic.
As a full-time Mum my slow mornings means that I wake up 30 minutes before my toddler (nothing dramatic) I just enjoy the silence, do my gratitude prayers, journal if I feel up to it and because he doesn’t usually eat immediately after waking up I have a 15-30 minutes home workout.
Your slow morning will most definitely require you to wake up slightly earlier than you do, but once you’re in rhythm, you will love it.
3. Lay outfit the night before.
This point is just to reinforce slow mornings. Picking up your outfit before, whether you’re a nine-to-five, work from home, or a full-time mum, is a love language to yourself.
Don’t just plan outfits for special occasions, you’re the occasion and doing this allows you to wake up with conviction and grace.
We do want that movie scene where the woman strips her wardrobe to the floor. Is it a guarantee you will wear that outfit? Not 100% but mostly.
To avoid a bounce rate, ask yourself this: “What activities do I have tomorrow? What is the appropriate fit? Is there a particular way I want my outfit to make me feel tomorrow?
4. Diy beauty hacks.
The world treats a woman who’s put together so much better, and that’s a fact, don’t come for me.
And I am saying this as someone who’s in the era of messy buns and joggers more often than not. But when I step out I always feel 10× prettier and confident.
So knowing how to diy your hair, even if it’s simple styling, press-ons/gel/gel stickers, cluster lashes, and simple makeup, will save your life (fr!)
It’s totally okay to go to technicians for these services, but what if you’re in a time crunch? Practice and have fun with it.
5. The under two minutes rule.
This is a productivity hack when you need a little push especially when it comes to those mundane tasks like sweeping your yard or decluttering your phone.
Start a task you don’t feel like doing for just two minutes (set a timer). If you still don’t feel like doing it after the two minutes, then switch tasks.
Most of the time you will just continue until you’re done. I love ..love …this because it’s easy to ignore some tasks for months.
6. Moving your body intuitively.
Did you know that women are at a high risk of getting osteoporosis due to the declining bone loss density we experience post menopause?
That is not to scare you, but to hammer in that as women, we need an active lifestyle.
Our lifestyles can sometimes mean that we sit down for around 8 hours or so, picking ways that you can move your body through the filter of what feels good to you is the answer.
Whether it’s dancing, lifting weights (especially during and after menopause), resistance training, walking, or swimming.
Let your intuition guide your body.
7. Three-sentence journaling.
Journaling is a habit that I would encourage each woman to adopt. Did you ever keep a diary as a young girl? Do you remember how fun it was to scribble away all your secrets and feelings in there, the camaraderie with that cute journal?
Journaling has been scientifically proven to have massive emotional and mental health benefits.
I like to joke that it’s like having a free therapist.
So if it’s a habit that you’re trying to pick up or maintain, start with only three sentences, whether you’re answering a journal prompt or doing free-flow writing.
8. A wins journal.
Still on journaling, most women tend to downplay our achievements, especially the ones leading up to our goals.
I am talking about the successful project, mastering a new hobby, coordinating a successful family reunion, etc.
We do a lot, but we don’t see it because we don’t keep a record, so keeping a wins journal of everything big or small is a reminder to celebrate yourself and the impact you make in various spaces.
You can dedicate a journal to this or use a digital journaling folder at the end of each day, and think of any wins you would like to add.
9. Check in with you.
A check-in is when you pause several times during the day to ask yourself how you feel and what you need.
It may be a sip of water or some fresh air, but in this fast-paced lifestyle, this is especially essential for us as women. Think of replenishing the moisture that a plant needs, you’re the gorgeous plant.
You can schedule this for every two to three hours and see how better you’ll feel.
10. Engage in something beautiful.
Feminine energy thrives in beauty, that is why as women we fill our houses with cute stationery, cutlery, beddings, furniture, and to top it off we still manage to say “Aww, that’s so cute..” when we see anything eye pleasing.
We revel in beauty and that is why I recommend you start to recognize and engage with something aesthetic each day. Get in tune with your senses.
It might be a cute baby, a bouquet, gorgeous mangoes(it’s a thing), a blooming tree, take it all in.
11. Give yourself a compliment.
In order to boost your confidence, don’t wait or try to fish compliments from third parties. It’s totally safe and Normal to go, “I really have a nice ass, or I nailed that project.”
Because if you don’t who will?
Stop playing! If it feels a little weird, write it on a note and stick it in your purse. When you read it later on, you will smile.
12. Connect with nature.
An article published by the American Psychological Association shows that spending time in nature can help improve mental health and emotional well-being.
We’re inseparable from nature; it sustains us, and vice versa. Spending time in a natural space where you feel safe replenishes you.
This could be greenery, waterbodies, or even your backyard.
I like to walk barefoot on my grass because it keeps me grounded and stabilizes my nervous system.
If you live in an apartment complex, check out your local park or other resources near you. Keeping plants is also another bonus.
13. Slow down one routine task.
Growing up, my mum’s in-laws would mock how slow she was as opposed to them(I’m African), but as I grew up, I began to lean into slowing down. Why must we rush through everything, especially as women, when we’re not in an apocalypse?
This is to say, pick at least one task that you can do slowly, it could be the dishes or making your bed, etc.
14. Incorporate small luxuries.
Luxury doesn’t necessarily equal spending, sometimes yes. Choose to incorporate small luxuries into routine tasks
A silk robe/sheets/scarf, antique cutlery, fragrant candles e.t.c. My current favorite is the jasmine perfume oil I make.
You’re the moment right?
15. Savor your meals.
Eat at least one meal of the day undistracted. Don’t check your phone or think about work just savor.
16. Take a lean back.
Taking a lean back means that you stop over-explaining, saying sorry when you’re not in the wrong, don’t prove, and don’t chase.
An example is texting a love interest once and waiting for a reply, no double text, it’s composure and self-confidence.
17. Wear a signature scent.
A signature scent doesn’t mean that you’re only limited to Chanel No. 5, it simply means that you have experimented with scents and you have seasonal scents you wear.
A signature scent is also not qualified by the budget but by the quality and how well it lasts.
I make my own scents at home using essential oils, and I can’t turn back. Find what works for you.
18. Compliment another woman.
On a particular Sunday, I was feeling bubbly and in my light playful feminine energy, and I started to compliment women around me, and I couldn’t stop because of how they lit up and how infectious it was.
The best thing about women complimenting each other is this polarizing effect: you glow, I glow, we all glow, we fill each other’s cups.
So the next time you notice something eye-catching in looks or behavior about a woman, don’t forget to let her know.
19. Lastly, create a feel-good playlist.
We’re talking about a three-minute playlist with two to three songs that will pick you from the dumps, it may change from time to time, of course.
Blast it anytime you need some high spirits.
How to make the microhabits stick.
1. Habit stacking.
In his book Atomic Habits, James talks about naturally integrating new habits into your established routines.
Remember Lora’s weight loss journey, she stacked a 5-minute walk after having dinner so instead of sitting down or overeating, she swapped it for a walk and over time adjusted the time, hence the efficiency.
As it is clear, the conscious decision to improve by 1% each day results in a progressive 37% by the end of the year, so imagine doing so year in year out?
2. Start small.
Nothing goes sideways like leaping straight up into macro habit, or even worse trying to build multiple habits all at once.
Start small using the above feminine microhabits list only juggling two at most three new habits .
3. Lastly Move with flow.
I gave you 19 Feminine microhabits that work for me; it doesn’t necessarily mean that I carry out all of them daily. This is about allowing your body to nudge you into what resonates with you at the moment.
Unlike habits founded on masculine energy, there’s no urgency of implementation, just an inclination to experience.
As a matter of fact, I bet there are a few awesome microhabits I could learn from you and filter my picks.
Final thoughts.
I hope that you’ve been able to pick a few feminine energy microhabits from the list and you simply can’t wait to implement them.
Whether it’s finding your signature scent, creating a slow morning routine, or taking lean-backs, I am rooting for you.
Remember that habit stacking will help you to make these soft habits part of your identity.
